Vermont Thread Gage Teams with the Institute for American Apprenticeships at Vermont HITEC to Train up to Twelve New Machine Operators For a Fourth Program  in Kentucky

Franklin, KY:  Vermont Thread Gage (VTG), located in Franklin, Kentucky, a leader in fixed-limit gages and manufacturer of threaded ring and plug gages, and the Institute for American Apprenticeships (IAA) at Vermont HITEC, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to high-quality workforce development, are happy to announce the launch of a fourth educational and apprenticeship program that will bring Machine Operator jobs to Kentucky over the next several months. 

The program is a partnership between VTG, the Kentucky Labor Cabinet, Department of Workplace Standards, Division of Apprenticeship, and the IAA.  The program provides free education and one year of on-site mentoring through an apprenticeship at the VTG Franklin, Kentucky location. The program is designed for unemployed and underemployed Kentucky residents. Successful completion of the program will lead directly to full-time employment as a Machine Operator at the fast growing VTG.

“By partnering with IAA at Vermont HITEC, VTG expects to graduate dozens of apprentices and rapidly increase the capabilities and skills of the men and women working in our manufacturing environment,” said Monica Greene, President and CEO of Vermont Thread Gage and Vermont Precision Tools. “This high quality training and apprenticeship program is designed to  prepare anyone seeking an advanced manufacturing career with the tools to do so.”

Upon successful completion of just 8 weeks, participants will fill Machine Operator apprentice positions and enter into a one-year apprenticeship program. All positions will receive full wages and benefits. Participants will be required to complete both phases the educational process as well as the one-year apprenticeship program administered by the Kentucky Labor Cabinet, Division of Apprenticeship. Upon completion of the apprenticeship, individuals will earn a Certificate from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship Division. 

Also new to this program is a cost-of- living grant. The grant, totaling $2,000 per student, is available to students to help support living expenses during the first 8 weeks of education. This grant will be divided over the first 8-week phase into weekly increments.

The pay scale for graduates of the VTG Machine Operator Program will start at $14.00 per hour. Apprentices will have the potential to earn $15.00 or more per hour after six months and $16.00 or more per hour upon the completion of a one-year apprenticeship and is based on performance. Further wage growth potential exists after the apprenticeship based on performance and overall growth within the organization. Overtime may be available, and the positions will also include a comprehensive benefits package as eligible.
